Building on Mrs. Davis's Generous Gift

As has been reported in The New York Times, the Associated Press, and on NewsCenter Now TV, 100-year old philanthropist Kathryn Wasserman Davis has given Scenic Hudson a $20 million bequest for buying land and creating parks along the Hudson. The extraordinarily generous gift launches a broader fundraising campaign to save the land that matters most before it's forever lost to development. We and partners still face big challenges.

We have a plan

  • At risk are 100,000 acres with mountaintops, marshlands, tributary shorelines, farmland and legendary views threatened by an unprecedented development land grab.
  • This will take $1 billion because of skyrocketing riverfront land prices.
  • Mrs. Davis's gift is a spectacular start. We'll build on it by working with land trusts, government agencies and other donors. Even with $20 million, Scenic Hudson can't do it alone.
  • While Mrs. Davis's gift will come to Scenic Hudson after her passing, valley citizens will benefit immediately by a $5 million loan to Scenic Hudson from the Pew Charitable Trusts for park improvements in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

What you can do

  • Be part of this new urgent campaign to save the land that matters most. Sign up for a free Scenic Hudson membership and get informed on the issues. We'll give you easy ways to stand up for the valley you want and tell you about fun and educational events.
  • Push your community's elected officials to create a comprehensive plan for growth that doesn't destroy the beauty, health and way of life where you live and work.
  • Smart ideas still need resources -- your donation can accelerate this vital campaign.
